Reading Corner: Under the Dome

Book: Under the Dome
Author: Stephen King
Rating: 2 out of 5

It feels like it has been awhile since I last posted a book review, and it is definitely due to reading Under the Dome for the past few weeks. I'm sure most of you are aware of the TV show on CBS that is based off this book. And I will say it is loosely based on this book since from what I have seen characters timeline have changed, as well as the stream of events have adjusted. Unfortunately since I have Time Warner Cable, I no longer have CBS and haven't been able to keep up with the show. But that is another story.

On to the book. Overall, I was deeply disappointed. I really like Stephen King as an author. When reading the book highlights, I thought this was going to be a great read. I was sorely mistaken. First of all, the book is over 1,000 pages. I don't shy away from big books, but if you are going to write something that massive, it better be good. Secondly, I am not a fan of cruel male depravity which is all over this book. My imagination runs away with me, and I was deeply disgusted. There were several times that I almost put it away, but the nerd in me always has to finish a book. And then when I finally got to the last page the ending was a huge anti climatic let-down. Needless to say, don't read the book...maybe watch the show. And for me...on to the next [great] read.

Dip Dye

Maxi Dress: Target | Shoes: Target | Jewelry: Madewell

This maxi dress was probably my favorite find of the summer. I am a huge fan of black and white mixed together, and this little touch of neon yellow at the edge of the dress is really brilliant. Easy to wear. Perfect for day to night. I am sold. :)

Crazy Layers

Dress: Banana Republic (old) | Skirt: Prabal Gurung for Target | Shoes: Target | Clutch: Aldo | Jewelry: Target, F21, JewelMint

Today I decided to try for some crazy layers by tucking a dress into a skirt. This styling idea I have seen on the red carpet and thought I would test run myself. Love the way this black and white combo came together. I actually bloused out the dress a little at the center to create a romantic vibe. Another great styling tip on re-creating your current wardrobe.

Ray of Sunshine

Tee: Martin+Osa (old) | Jeans: American Eagle Outfitters (old) | Hat: Nordstrom | Purse: Urban Outfitters | Jewelry: Madewell, JewelMint

This summer I have forgotten all about my colored jeans in favor of flirty skirts and dresses. With fall just around the corner, I needed to get some wear out of these great summer hues. And who doesn't love yellow! Such a great shade: cheerful and fun. Just add neutrals. :)

DIY: Crostini

Some how snack time for me always ends up being snack time for my two favorite furry friends. One of my favorite treats to make is what I like to call a crostini. Super easy to make and has just enough sweetness to satisfy my sweet tooth. Items you'll need:

French Bread
Honey
Brie
Apple

Slice up the bread into small slices
Bake in the oven until slightly toasted
Spread on honey and Brie
Top with a sliced apple

While I am prepping, you can see the eager looks on my dogs faces. They are so patient.  :)

HUNGRY FACES

Final product with two happy faces after they have had their apple slices! Of course, you can present them better if you have an inner chef. I unfortunately have not mastered that art...one day.

YUM!

I am so ready for fall to get here and can't wait to wear all the fun new fall items I have been accruing. So for today's look I decided to start incorporating some of my new pieces with this fun top. Love the way it roughs up the girlie skort. Now colder weather, where are you?
