Alright all you lucky, closeted Harry Potter fans; don't be fooled. The Cuckoo's Calling is actually written by none other than J.K. Rowling. Something I didn't learn until I read the "About the Author" page at the end of the book. I know her introduction into the adult novel realm wasn't extraordinary with The Casual Vacancy. However, her second try with this book definitely hit the spot. The Cuckoo's Calling is a murder mystery where a struggling private detective has been hired to find the murderer of a high profile model whose tragic death was labeled a suicide. Lots of twists and turns, and the resolution was definitely a surprise. If you are traveling this holiday season and need a simple, no fuss book to read...check this one out.
