Blue Skies

Top: Lucca Couture via Urban Outfitters (old) | Pants: Martin + Osa (old) | Sandals: Target | Bag: Philip Lim for Target

Girls gotta love a lazy weekend with nothing on the books. I spent quality time with my family, enjoyed the amazing weather on Sunday and finally got to work on a DIY project. Check back tomorrow for the details...you won't want to miss it!

Reading Corner: Deadly Heat

Book: Deadly Heat
Author: Richard Castle
Rating: 4 out of 5

Another great murder mystery from ghostwriter Richard Castle. Deadly Heat is the fifth novel in this series that correlates with the abc tv show Castle. Whether you like the show or not, the books stand alone on their own. Interesting plot filled with twists and turns so you never know who the suspect is going to be. Follow the show...read the books...you won't be disappointed.

Bomber Jacket

Jacket: Arden B (old) | Tunic: Target | Leggings: Express | Bag: Steven by Steve Madden (old) | Jewelry: JewelMint

Happy Saturday! I am so glad that it is finally getting cooler out because that means I can pull out jackets and blazers for layering. :)

Bedazzle

Shirt: JCrew (similar here) | Pants: JCrew (old, similar here) | Shoes: GoJane | Jewelry: H&M, Alter'd State, Kenneth Cole watch

There has been a lot of collar interest as of late with rhinestones, beading, and studs to help dress up the common woven shirt. I love a bedazzled shirt as much as the next person, but what happens when those details fall off after the first wash? You can always sew the extras back on, but that is tedious and it is only a short solve until the next time. The cost + maintenance is just not worth it to me. The next best thing is this great collar pin. It gives the same trendy look yet it is removable! I'd say that is a win-win.

Fringe

Kimono: ASTR | Dress: Tart (old) | Leggings: Express

The moment I saw this fringed kimono I fell in love. Such a great bohemian look with a lot of character.

Sweatshirt

Sweatshirt: Philip Lim for Target | Skirt: Halogen (old) | Shoes: GoJane | Bag: Steven by Steven Madden | Jewelry: F21

The fashion sweatshirt is one of the items of the season. It easily transforms day-to-night and as a plus is very comfortable to wear. I paired mine with a classic leather pencil skirt and heels for a great work combo.

Emmy Awards

Award season kicks off with the Emmy's last night. And purple definitely was the color of the night.

And then two of my favorites for color and detail...

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest season is here yet again, and I am beyond excited. The food and people watching is always amazing. Though I haven't participated in the dressing up, I love how others get into the spirit. As a priority every year, I hunt down the Helmut's strudel stand. Seriously the most authentic version of the pastry I've had state-side...makes me swoon. Check out some of my pics from this weekend.

Reading Corner: The Paris Wife

Book: The Paris Wife
Author: Paula McLain
Rating: 4 out of 5

Yet another page turning historical fiction novel. The Paris Wife is the story of Ernest Hemingway and his first wife Hadley Richardson. Though based on true characters and somewhat real events, the story is fictional. It follows them falling in love and moving to Paris while Hemingway struggles to start his writing career. The story itself is very romantic and written beautifully so the reader can actually feel what it was like to be young in Paris during the 20's. Lots of drinking, traveling, mischief and the discovery of oneself after the first world war. The hardest part of the novel is getting used to the 20's slang. Overall, it is a heartbreaking tale that keeps you interested until the last word.

Track Pant + Leather

Top: Zara (old) | Pant: Piper (on sale!) | Shoes: Target | Jewelry: JewelMint

Leather is everywhere. If you don't have a little of this already in your wardrobe, the time is now. I love these  faux leather track pants from Nordstrom; comfortable silhouette in a sexy slouch. What's not to love? :)

The Pant

Fun, billowy pants? Yes, please!

Colorblock

Dress: Target | Shoes: Target (old) | Bag: Steven by Steve Madden (old) | Jewelry: Target, Marc Jacobs

Hello bargain shopper! I love when I find fun and trend-right pieces for a bargain price. I have been really impressed with Target lately on their assortment offering. Not only do they have great collaboration events with top designers, but their own private labels have been elevated as well. For someone like me who loves fashion but has a small budget, I've found myself perusing through Target's offering more and more. You don't have to wear designer to be fashionable. Take inspiration from the designers you love and re-create.

Shirt Dress

Dress: Philip Lim for Target | Bag: Philip Lim for Target | Shoes: Target | Jewelry: JewelMint

Another great look from the Philip Lim for Target collection. I love an all in one outfit like a printed shirt dress. This silhouette can be perfect for work and for brunch on the weekend with friends. The special detail about this particular dress is the high-low hem; a little different but still very wearable.

Philip Lim for Target

Blouse: F21 | Skirt: Philip Lim for Target | Shoes: GoJane | Clutch: Nine West (old) | Jewelry: JCrew

The Philip Lim collaboration with Target is finally here! I woke up Sunday morning to a few texts from my sister advising me  that I should probably get to Target earlier than planned based on some of the news articles she had read the night before. So I quickly got dressed at 6:30AM (crazy, but I am an early-bird anyways) and was the first in line at my target; waiting for the doors to open. I wasn't lonely for company as another fashionista joined me shortly after my arrival. Once the doors opened, I was glad that I had arrived so early because there was limited supply of the items I truly wanted. Though I was disappointed that the tuxedo suit was not available in any of the Targets in my area, I was happy with the few things I was able to pick up. One being the above skirt with this amazing animal print variation; fun and flirty.

Monochromatic

Jacket: I Heart Ronson (old) | Tank: JCrew (old) | Skirt: ASOS | Shoes: Zara | Jewelry: JewelMint, Givenchy, F21 | Clutch: Nine West

Dressing in a monochromatic color is a handy tool for whenever you are running late in the morning or are just not feeling inspired. My go to color is blue. Not only is it my favorite color, but it also can include denim which pairs with everything. Smart tip: sort your closet by color families within each category (tops/bottoms/skirts). This will help with viewing your options and finding your favorite items when you need to get ready in a flash.
