Hello holiday weekend! I love the extended time off to spend with friends and family. This weekend will involve a little Mexican food, rough housing with my two favorite dogs and Game Night with a group of friends. Really excited for the break. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

I love a good field jacket because it pretty much goes with anything. If you don't have one yet, it is a must purchase. You can find great ones at all price points. See some options below.

Lace + Leather

Dress: F21 | Kimono: Express | Peplum Belt: ASOS | Jewelry: Kenneth Cole watch, Marc Jacobs ring | Bag/Shoes: Steven by Steve Madden

When I am bored with my wardrobe choices, buying something new isn't always the answer. Then I just have more stuff that I am bored with. :) I spent some time this weekend rummaging through my closet to create new inventive outfits. The layering kimono and the dress are pieces that I have had for at least 7-10 years. Since the kimono has beautiful lace details, I thought it would be a great cover-up to this strapless dress...making it more work appropriate. It's something I haven't tried before but definitely a look that I love.

Reading Corner: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

Book: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet
Author: Jamie Ford
Rating: 5 out of 5

Love, love, love this book. I always gravitate towards fiction that is based on historical events. This novel is a love story that takes place during WWII between a Japanese girl and Chinese boy. In the United States during WWII, anyone of Japanese descent was pushed out of their homes and sent to live in concentration camps. The young girl is sent away with her family, while the boy is torn between his love for her and duty to his family. It almost has a Romeo and Juliet feel to it without the tragic ending. This is a lovely and heartbreaking story. I strongly recommend you pick it up!

Relax

Tee: Express | Skirt: Target | Sandals: Zara | Jewelry: Madewell, Marc Jacobs | Purse: Urban Outfitters

Another beautiful and HOT weekend. Love spending the afternoons catching up with friends and trying to find inspiration for my next house project. I picked up an amazing trunk this week for our side table in the living room but still need the "extras" to pull it all together. Girl on a mission!

Brunch

Happy Saturday! Spending the day with friends for brunch. A little migas and mimosas...delightful! :)

Ruffle Drama

Blazer: Banana Republic (old) | Top: JCrew (old) | Jeans: Target | Shoes: GoJane | Jewelry: JewelMint, JCrew, Kenneth Cole watch | Bag: Steven by Steve Madden (old)

The neighborhood next to mine has the most unique park with thoughtful landscaping and art on display. It is a great place to relax, walk around, and enjoy the outdoors. So I thought it was the perfect location to pair with my outfit.
Today's look involved re-mixing the wardrobe. I'm a collector when it comes to clothing, and I tend to forget about some great pieces I have that don't always get worn. I love this silk top with the ruffles at the neck...a loud piece with soft, unique details. Almost like wearing a piece of art.

Aloha

Top: Leith (old) | Skirt: JCrew (old) | Shoes: Zara (old) | Jewelry: Michael Kors watch, JewelMint

My love for the Hawaiian look continues. Not only for the great colors and prints but of course it is a location where I would love to be at this moment. This top not only has a great print, but it also imitates the pajama trend that has emerged. Great retro piece that can be paired with everything. I even wore it has a fun cover-up to my high-waisted bathing suit at the beach. Now who can argue with something that cross functional? :)

Sweater Weather

Sweater: JCrew (old) | Trousers: Vince Camuto (old) | Shoes: GoJane | Jewelry: Madewell, Nordstrom, JCrew

It is not quite sweater weather, but it has been cool enough in the mornings and evenings that I can wear some of my light weight spring sweaters. Love! One step closer to my favorite time of year. :)

Today is my mom's birthday, so I want to wish her a relaxing and fun day! Just a little snapshot of us from last holiday season.

Tangerine

Tee: Victoria's Secret (old) | Skirt: JCrew (old) | Shoes: GoJane | Jewelry: JCrew, F21, Madewell, Kenneth Cole watch | Clutch: Nine West (old)

I love that a basic tee can go with anything. My favorite combination is to pair it with a fun skirt. Not overly done but still put together. This is one of my go-to looks when I am in a rush in the morning. It doesn't require a lot of thought, and I know it will always look good. As per usual fashion rules, if you don't have a stash of basic tees in your closet, start with the neutral colors. Black, white, grey can be paired with a lot of options.

Plaid

Top: Nollie | Jeans: KUT from the Kloth | Shoes: GoJane | Jewelry: Nordstrom, JewelMint

Continuing with my 90s story from yesterday, plaid was a big part of that period. Plaids will continue to be a trend for fall in all types of fabrications and silhouettes. Today I stuck with my favorite tomboy look and paired my plaid with boyfriend jeans and fun heels. These heels were a major bargain find. GoJane has become my official site to buy shoes. Great fashion styles for incredible prices. Check them out!

90s Girl

Dress: MinkPink (old) | Booties: GoJane | Belt: Gap (old) | Jewelry: Nordstorm, Urban Outfitters

I am a child of the 80s-90s, and the fashion for this time will always have a special place in my heart. My favorite movie from this time is Clueless. It drew me into fashion and the character Cher is the girl I wanted to be. So with current fashion taking cues from the 90s, I decided to pull together my own look with a great velvet baby doll dress and booties. I love the texture of velvet and you can expect to see more of it this fall.
