Lip Service

Left to Right: Revlon Sultry Sable | MAC Diva A78 Matte | Nars Jungle Red | Bobbi Brown Matte Lip Color in Jenna | Laura Mercier Roman Moon | Smashbox Pink Petal | Smashbox Pout

Lipstick is one of my favorite things to play around with. It is one of those untold accessories that help complete an outfit while expressing your personality. Bold hues have progressively become more on-trend to wear. The above is a display of the various hues I have been sporting throughout the past year. Sticking more to the burgundy and deep red shades during the fall and slowly transitioning to brighter corals and pinks this spring. Check out close-ups of my favorite four below. :)

Oscar Night

I always get really excited to see what everyone is wearing to the Oscars. Surprisingly this year the red carpet was void of color as most celebs decided to wear neutral to white tones. Amy Adams was my favorite pick of the evening. She always has such great poise and looks glamorous. See below for some of my favorites.

Amy Adams - I love the amazing corset bodice and the tulled skirt. Beautiful.

Naomi Watts - The cut of this dress is amazing.

Kerry Washington - I love the color with the beaded bodice and belt accent.

Amanda Seyfried - Another great silhouette with the halter. Amazing embroidery on the entire dress.
Jessica Chastain - Great old Hollywood glamour.

Reading Corner

I've been pretty lazy lately and therefore have not been keeping up with my reading goals. But I can always count of the author Emily Giffin to get me back on track. Her books are always great reads with interesting story lines and well thought out characters. This past week I finished her latest book Where We Belong. It was a fantastic story of figuring out who you are and what you want out of life. I couldn't put it down. You should definitely check it out or even look at some of her other books. You won't be disappointed.

Casual Friday

Jacket: Banana Republic (old) | Sweater: JCrew | Skirt: Gap | Socks: Urban Outfitters | Boots: Target | Jewelry: JewelMint

You can always mix a skirt outfit and still be casual. Pairing a pair of flat boots can usually do the trick. I work in fashion, so my office has a very limited dress code. However, I still like to look professional when I have important meetings. This outfit has a business casual aspect to it but feels more dressed down due to the casual footwear. Great for a Friday work-day.

Mirror Prints

Blouse: Prabal Gurung for Target | Skirt: Halogen | Shoes: Prabal Gurung for Target | Jewelry: JewelMint | Bag: Steven by Steve Madden

So my current obsession with Prabal Gurung for Target continues. I love a good mirror print, which has been a trend this past season. And I think this particular print was done in a fantastic way through the various silhouettes in the collection.

DVF Obsessed

Wrap Blouse: Diane von Furstenburg | Jeans: Madewell | Shoes: Target | Bag: Steven by Steve Madden

I have a serious obsession with DVF. Her brand is spectacular and continues to amaze me each season. I would buy everything if I had the money to do so. This blouse is something I have had for years and never tire of. I love the mixed pattern...combining plaid with floral. Genius! Last year DVF did a collaboration with Gap Kids, and I've heard that they are planning to do another collaboration soon. I am beyond excited! Though I do not have kids, my lovely sister has a plethora of her own that she allows me to style. So I will definitely be perusing this collection when it launches.

Tied Up

Blouse: JCrew | Skirt: Madewell | Shoes: Cosmopolitan | Jewelry: Madewell

So I am trying to stick to my guns on this "dress to impress" 2013. My goal has been to be more thoughtful on my wardrobe selections and try to look less like a slob. Adding a little twist on to a basic outfit can go a long way. I love the idea of knotting this blouse at the waist instead of just a normal tuck-in. It adds some interest and still keeps the look classic.

Spring Attitude

Cardigan: Madewell | Blouse: Joie | Shorts: F21 | Socks: Urban Outfitters | Shoes: Steve Madden | Clutch: Nine West

In case you haven't noticed, I am ready for spring to be here. We continue to have pockets of warm weather which makes me want to wear tons of bright color. Taking a little risk and mixing patterns with this outfit...but making sure to stay within a color family. I'm loving the high waist short right now. F21 has a ton of great options, but the "sailor" aspect of this particular style had my heart from first sight. Since it is still technically winter in most states, I added these great thigh high socks. I know the look isn't for everyone. My husband wasn't particularly over the moon for them, but always remember to dress for yourself. Anyone who knows me, knows that I can dress outside of the box on occasion. Do it with confidence! You never know who you may inspire. :)

Camo

Sweater: Loft | Pants: See Thru Soul | Booties: Target | Clutch: Zara

Camo is becoming a new basic. Everywhere you look you can find it in pants, tops, jackets, shoes, accessories. It is a great element to add to your wardrobe now while it is at its peak. I was overjoyed when I found these pants at Nordstrom recently. Earlier in the fall I had my eyes on a pair from Zara, but they sold out quicker than I could blink. This pair is almost identical to my dream pair and has the perfect shade of camo green I was looking for. I kept them winter chic in an eggplant sweater, but definitely want to try out some great grudge or hippie looks once the weather warms up.

Flare

Sweater: Gap | Jeans: Altar'd State | Jewelry: Altar'd State, Madewell | Bad: Steven by Steve Madden

In a previous post I mentioned how I wanted to bring the flare back, and here we go! I found these amazing jeans at a new up and coming boutique called Altar'd State. They are a great light weight fabric that can transition into spring and summer. So excited to come up with new and different ways to wear them.

Black + Blue

Jacket: Zara | Tee: Nordstrom | Jeans: Gap | Jewelry: JewelMint

Black and Blue is really the perfect combination. And I am obsessed with this jacket creation by Zara. It combines my favorite colors and some great mixed media. Leather has been an on-going trend this fall. Adding the faux leather pieces and cool biker jacket silhouette to a traditional tweed is the perfect mix.

Neon

Sweatshirt: Prabal Gurung for Target | Jeans: Madewell | Shoes: Prabal Gurung for Target | Bag: Steven by Steve Madden | Jewelry: JewelMint

Another great outfit featuring the Prabal Gurung collection from Target. I love the neon colors and the fun mirror print in the sweatshirt. Casual but still chic!

Prabal Gurung for Target

Sweater: Gap | Skirt: Prabal Gurung for Target | Tights: DKNY | Boots: Andiamo | Jewelry: JewelMint, Michael Kors watch | Bag: Steven by Steve Madden

The Prabal Gurung launch at Target is definitely one of my favorite designer collections they have produced thus far. The line is so put together with a mix of black and white with bright pops of color. I love the prints and the wide assortment of shoes. A 100% hit! For today's outfit, I paired one of the skirts with a bright sweater. This skirt is so much fun because it can be dressed up and down. It also has a wonderful fullness to it which I love.

Nail Art

Accessories for an outfit usually revolve around shoes, handbags, jewelry. But people generally forget about the art of the perfect nail polish. Nail art has been a major trend this past year and keeps growing. I love utilizing trends from the runway and incorporating it into a fun nail design. And some brands are giving you great designs and embellishments through the sticker craze. WhoWhatWear did a great piece on nail stickers this week.

I actually have the L'Oreal version mentioned above on my nails this week, which makes this a perfect story. This is the first time that I have tried the L'Oreal version, and I have to say that it isn't my favorite. I've only had the stickers on for a day, and they have already started to peel off. The concept is great because I love the jeweled look, but they definitely need to adhere better.

Now this is not my first foray into nail stickers, I have been an avid fan of the Sally Hansen versions. They are really easy to apply, last for at least two weeks, and have a smart price-point. New artwork is created each season, similar to a new color palette of nail color, but they do keep some of the key basics around season to season. See below for some of my favorites I've tried out. If you're worried about creating your own nail art, these are definitely something you should try out.
